My passion lies in making innovative things

Employees of Bond3D: Harmen

Meet Harmen Bouma
Application Development Engineer

Lots of printing, seeing what the signals are, where things can be improved and which settings you need to tweak to get a better result. That, in a nutshell, is the job of Harmen, who as a process engineer contributes to preparing Bond3D’s printing technology for production.

We keep on solving challenges

“We log all signals from the printer and we analyse them. See which buttons we can turn. Or which new problems arise, and then solve them again.”

“I worked for a windmill manufacturer, but due to changes in the market and, in turn, the work, the challenge disappeared. Actually, I came across Bond3D coincidentally, and it immediately appealed to me. I like learning and developing new things and here we are working on a technique that has been around for a while but is new when it comes to industrial production. So I clicked the apply button and a very nice conversation followed to see what we could do for each other.”

We love to test

“My job entails a lot of testing and analysis. I would say I’m at the computer about half the time and the other half I’m at the printers. That’s so nice here, you’re literally next to the production hall. If you come up with something, you can give it a go right away, you have immediate feedback.”

We’re building Bond3D together

At Bond3D, there is also room to develop yourself. “I myself am now developing myself towards the application team. I learned a lot with the process team, truly a repository of knowledge for what we do here and how everything works. But next up is the step to the real creation. Converting a customer’s question into an actual design. Because it is not a matter of ‘just printing’, but for every product, you have to look at how you are going to print it and how you can use this production process to make an object that is a fully-fledged alternative to metal, for example. But that is where my passion lies, in making innovative things.”

“We are really a growing company, and you notice that. But we are building it together. You are allowed to have an opinion and we discuss new steps, the structure that is needed to grow and how we give shape to it.”
